Stop 1: Seven Sisters Generating Station

Few places showcase the power of the Winnipeg River quite like the Seven Sisters Generating Station. As the largest producer of electricity on the Winnipeg River, this impressive hydroelectric station has been generating power for Manitobans for decades.
Construction began in 1929 and was completed in two phases, with the sixth and final turbine entering service in 1952. Today, the station has a net capability of 168 MW and produces an average of 990 million kWh of electricity each year. Standing beside the river, it's easy to appreciate both the engineering behind the station and the incredible force of the water that makes it all possible.
The nearby viewing areas offer excellent views of the powerhouse, spillways, and rushing water, making this a must-stop for photographers, history lovers, and anyone interested in Manitoba's hydroelectric story.

Just down the road, Whitemouth Falls Provincial Park is home to the meeting point of the Whitemouth and Winnipeg Rivers, where rushing rapids, exposed granite, and boreal forest create an unforgettable setting.
Take a walk along the river and enjoy the sound as it tumbles over the rocks. Long before visitors came to admire the scenery, this was an important gathering place for First Peoples, adding rich cultural and historical significance to the landscape.

Wrap up your day with a walk through the Seven Sisters Trails. This five-kilometre multi-use trail network winds through the forest surrounding Whitemouth Falls Provincial Park and has been built and maintained by volunteers from the Seven Sisters Falls Community Club.
The trails are flat, wide, well-maintained, and easy to travel, making them a favourite for hiking and biking in the summer and cross-country skiing in the winter, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Along the way, you'll find scenic river views, paths through boreal forest, and glimpses of the Seven Sisters Generating Station.
